Comedy Power Hour (May 9) 3pm Pub Comedy (May 10) Zabrina Douglas, is a nurse and a comedian. Her comedy album Things Black Girls Say: The Album received a Juno Award nomination for Comedy Album of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2023.
Douglas, a registered nurse and mother of five, performs across the country at Yuk Yuks comedy clubs, theatres, and both corporate and private events. She regularly performs at Kenny Robinson's Nubian Disciples nights, which celebrate Black Canadian comedians, and was nominated for the Tim Sims Award in 2008. She broke through to wider success in 2020 as the headliner of Laughter from the Frontlines, a virtual comedy show organized by The Unknown Comedy Club. The show featured frontline healthcare workers performing comedy and storytelling about coping with the COVID-19 pandemic. Later, she organized “Things Black Girls Say,” a regular show at Toronto's Comedy Bar, and recorded her performances from the shows on April 15 and 16, 2022, to release as an album. Zabrina Douglas has graced the stage at the Juno Awards in Edmonton, the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, and Just for Laughs in Montreal, Vancouver, and Toronto. She has appeared on CBC Gem's new wave of standup, including the Winnipeg Comedy Festival: Die Laughing and Jack Whitehall: The Gala. In 2024, she released another comedy album, Nurse on Nights, which is available for streaming everywhere. |
